Microchipping FAQs
Top Questions
Because your peace of mind matters, we’ve answered the most frequent questions about how microchipping works, how it protects your pet, and what to expect from the process.
Why should I microchip my pet?
Microchipping provides a permanent form of identification that can’t fall off like a collar or tag. It significantly increases the chances of your lost dog or cat being safely returned to you.
How does microchipping work?
A tiny chip (the size of a grain of rice) is placed just under the skin between the shoulders. When scanned by a vet or shelter, it reveals an ID number linked to your contact information in a secure database.
Is the microchipping procedure painful?
Most pets tolerate microchipping very well the sensation is similar to a routine vaccination and takes only a few seconds.
Is my personal information secure?
Yes. The microchip does not contain any personal data only a unique ID number. Your contact details are stored securely in the registry and can only be accessed to help reunite you with your pet.
Do I need to maintain or replace the microchip?
No. Microchips have no battery and are designed to last your pet’s lifetime. You only need to update registry contact information if it changes.
Do indoor-only pets really need a microchip?
Absolutely, accidents happen easily. Indoor pets can slip outside through open doors or windows. A microchip gives them a safe path back home.
